Wrong Way Vehicle on I-40 Leads to Fatal Wreck
19-year-old Jake Smith (Beebe, AR) was fatally injured in an accident that occurred on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Mr. Smith was traveling south on State Highway 5 in Rose Bud when a northbound vehicle (2019 GMC Acadia) crossed the centerline and struck Mr. Smith’s vehicle (2017 Chevrolet Malibu). The collision took place near Valleyview Road.
19-year-old Eli Sutherland (Beebe, AR), 18-year-old Gavin Hatch (Beebe, AR), 18-year-old McKay Jurges (Beebe, AR), and 65-year-old Neena Reed (Heber Springs, AR) all sustained injuries in the collision. Those injured were transported to Unity Health Hospital.
Weather conditions were cloudy and road conditions wet at the time of the accident.
