I-40 Pileup in Arkansas Claims the Life of Jason Lang

20-year-old Jason C. Lang (Memphis, TX) was fatally injured in an accident on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m. a westbound 18-wheeler (2017 Freightliner) lost control and overturned with the trailer coming to a rest in the righthand lane of traffic on Interstate 40 near mile marker 244.

Mr. Lang was traveling west and stopped his vehicle (2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee) on the righthand shoulder of I-40 along with another westbound 18-wheeler (2020 Freightliner). Mr. Lang exited his vehicle to offer aid when a westbound tractor-trailer (2018 Freightliner) struck the trailer of the overturned 18-wheeler before continuing and striking Mr. Lane. Mr. Jason Lang sustained fatal injuries in the collision. The 2018 Freightliner also struck the stopped 2020 Freightliner on the righthand shoulder.

The other three drivers sustained injuries in the accident. 35-year-old Bung Di (Dallas, TX) was driving the overturned 18-wheeler. 47-year-old Dwight D. Slater (West Columbus, SC) was driving the 2020 Freightliner that stopped on the shoulder. 49-year-old Demetrius D. Brooks (Memphis, TN) was driving the westbound 2018 Freightliner that collided with the overturned trailer.

51-year-old Naw Seng Gauri (Houston, TX) was a passenger in the overturned 2017 Freightliner.

Those injured were transported to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, TN, and Forrest City Medical Center in Forrest City, AR.

Weather conditions were cloudy and road conditions wet at the time of the accident.
