4 Workers Struck by a Vehicle on I-540 Near Fort Smith

26-year-old Moises Felipe Cruz (Fort Smith, AR) was fatally injured in an accident that occurred on Monday, November 9, 2020.

At approximately 4:46 p.m. Mr. Cruz was working in the median of Interstate 540 in Fort Smith when a northbound vehicle (2006 Lincoln LS) swerved to avoid a collision and left the roadway. The vehicle struck the cable barrier before striking Mr. Cruz and 3 additional workers in the median.

21-year-old Jesus Heriberto Cruz-Garcia (Fort Smith, AR), 26-year-old Juan Carlos Morales (Fort Smith, AR), and 45-year-old Geraldo Morales Felipe (Fort Smith, AR) were also working in the median and struck by the northbound vehicle.

The additional workers injured in the collision were transported with injuries to Mercy Hospital and Baptist Health in Fort Smith.

Weather conditions were clear and road conditions dry at the time of the accident.
