Wrong-Way Vehicle on I-40 Strikes 6 Bikers, Claiming 3 Lives

46-year-old Leonard Lemar, Jr. (Slidell, Louisiana), 44-year-old Patricia Lemar (Slidell, LA), and 50-year-old Malinda Shano (Terryton, LA) were all fatally injured in an accident on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

At approximately 6:07 p.m. a vehicle (unidentified pick-up truck) traveling east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Dyer (mile marker 21) struck seven motorcycles traveling together on I-40 Westbound.

Mr. Lemar, Jr. Ms. Lemar, and Ms. Shano sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

Additional injuries took place to the driver of the vehicle and passenger, as well as to four additional bikers: 48-year-old Larry Alexie (Lafite, LA), 44-year-old Robert Day (Gretna, LA), 42-year-old Jennifer Couvillion (Lafite, LA), and 49-year-old Derrick Reynolds (Slidell, LA).

29-year-old Ivan Santos (Norman, OK) was driving the vehicle and sustained injuries. 37-year-old Amber Rodgers (Virginia Beach, VA) was a passenger in the vehicle and sustained injuries.

Those injured were transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, and UAMS in Little Rock.

Conditions were reportedly clear and dry.
