8-Vehicle Collision on I-40 Leads to 1 Dead and 4 Injured

An unidentified female was fatally injured in an accident that took place on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

At approximately 4:21 p.m. the unidentified female was driving east on Interstate 40 near Atkins when her vehicle (Chevrolet) was struck from behind by an eastbound 18-wheeler (2018 Peterbilt).

The 18-wheeler then continued on I-40 before striking a second vehicle (2003 Dodge Ram) and a third vehicle (2013 Hyundai Sonata). The Dodge Ram was forced off the interstate to the right. The Hyundai Sonata was forced into the fifth vehicle involved in the accident (2015 Toyota 4Runner) which, in turn, collided with a sixth vehicle (2017 Honda Pilot) and seventh vehicle (2018 Kia Soul). The Honda Pilot was forced into an eighth vehicle (2009 Toyota Camry). The Kia Soul was forced from the roadway as well.

4 injuries were reported at the time of the accident. 21-year-old Dustin M. Lamb (Morrilton, AR) was driving the Dodge Ram at the time of the accident. 53-year-old Bryan E. Wilson (Mayflower, AR) was driving the Hyundai Sonata. 43-year-old Terri C. Boyd (Cabot, AR) was driving the 2015 Toyota 4Runner. And 20-year-old Zachary T. Gullet (Perry, AR) was driving the Kia Soul at the time of the wreck.

Those with injuries were transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital, Conway Regional Medical Center, and UAMS in Little Rock.

Conditions were reportedly clear and dry at the time of the wreck, though traffic was “slowed.”
