Hot Springs Car Wreck Claims 4 Lives on Saturday

35-year-old Rebekah Schaffer (Royal, Arkansas), 67-year-old Linda Godwin (Royal, AR), 57-year-old Julieanna Gonzalez (Glenwood, AR), and an unidentified minor were all fatally injured in a car accident on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Ms. Schaffer, Ms. Godwin, and the minor passenger were traveling west on Highway 70 East (Grand Avenue). Ms. Gonzalez was the passenger in a vehicle traveling east.

Ms. Gonzalez’s eastbound vehicle (2020 Hyundai) crossed the center line and entered westbound traffic.  Ms. Godwin and Ms. Schaffer’s vehicle (2009 Hyundai) swerved to avoid a collision striking a second westbound vehicle (2015 Chevrolet). The Chevrolet vehicle exited the roadway. Ms. Godwin and Ms. Schaffer’s Hyundai then collided with the eastbound Hyundai in the westbound lanes of traffic. Their vehicle then collided with a third westbound vehicle (2012 Acura).

43-year-old Andres Gonzalez was driving the eastbound vehicle (Hyundai) and sustained injuries in the collision.

Road conditions were wet and weather conditions cloudy at the time of the accident.
