43-year-old Matthew Coles (Marion, AR) was fatally injured in an accident on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
At approximately 7:48 a.m. Mr. Matthew Coles was traveling south on I-55 near Marion in Crittenden County when an 18-wheeler crossed the centerline and struck Mr. Coles’ vehicle (2006 Honda Accord) head-on in the southbound lanes of traffic.
A 2017 Freightliner was merging into the northbound lanes of I-55 from the rest area when it was struck from behind by a 2019 Freightliner, which then continued to lose control on icy roads and leave the roadway, crossing into the southbound lanes of traffic.
Mr. Coles sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Additionally, an unidentified minor passenger in Mr. Coles’ vehicle was injured and transported with injuries. 57-year-old Zivko Josipovic (Hudsonville, MI) and 50-year-old Ronnie Black (Walnut Ridge, AR) also sustained injuries in the accident. Those injured were transported to Baptist Health Medical Center.
Road conditions were icy at the time of the accident.
