A Wet U.S. 71 in Polk County Results in Fatal Wreck

69-year-old Maria Guadalupe Zarate (Grannis, AR) was fatally injured in an accident that took place on Tuesday, October 9.

Maria Guadalupe Zarate was 1 of 4 passengers in a 2005 Chevrolet headed south on U.S. 71 in Polk County near Potter Junction, Arkansas. Among the 4 passengers were 29-year-old Victor Zarate (Grannis, AR), 37-year-old Jhanell Marlette Wilson (Grannis, AR), and an unidentified minor. The driver, 31-year-old Jesus Meza (Grannis, AR), lost control while negotiating a curve and left the roadway. Their vehicle struck a fence and then a tree.

Conditions at the time were reportedly rainy and wet.
