Construction Worker’s Life Taken by Vehicle in West Memphis

36-year-old Justin Marcus Delgado (Iola, Texas) was fatally injured in an accident on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Additionally, 33-year-old Brandon Wayne Abernathy (Arkadelphia, AR) was injured in the accident.

Mr. Justin Delgado and Mr. Brandon Abernathy were working in a construction zone along Interstate 55 in West Memphis.

At approximately 10:07 p.m., a southbound vehicle (2020 Chevrolet Corvette) attempted to pass stopped traffic along the shoulder of I-55 in the work zone. The Chevy vehicle struck Mr. Delgado and Mr. Abernathy who were standing on the shoulder of the interstate in the work zone.

Mr. Justin Delgado sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Mr. Bradon Abernathy sustained injuries and was transported to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Conditions were reportedly clear and dry.
