Drowning Victim Identified in Fort Chaffee Submerged Vehicle

64-year-old Tommy Adams (Charleston, AR) was fatally injured near Fort Chaffee on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. a van (Suzuki) had reportedly been caught in floodwaters near Gate One of Fort Chaffee and dive teams were called in. Barling Police later identified the victim as Mr. Adams.

Police are unaware of how long the vehicle was submerged and the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

James Breeden, Barling Police spokesman, said authorities believe Mr. Adams may have driven around a barricade blocking off the flooded area. Authorities are continuing to investigate how Mr. Adams was able to get through the barricade.
