Heavy Rain Leads to Fatal Wreck on Highway 71 in Scott County

23-year-old Christopher Ryan Pina (Mansfield, AR) was fatally injured in an accident that took place on Monday, June 3, 2019.

At approximately 12:44 p.m. Mr. Pina was traveling south on U.S. Highway 71 in rural Scott County when he lost control of his vehicle in heavy rain. Mr. Pina’s vehicle (2009 Nissan Altima) began to spin and cross the centerline. Mr. Pina’s vehicle was struck by a northbound vehicle (1993 Jayco Eagle) in the northbound lane of Highway 71.

37-year-old Steven Albert Shelton (Mansfield, AR), 32-year-old April Dawn Shelton (Mansfield, AR) and two unidentified minors were traveling in the northbound Jayco Eagle motor-coach.

Weather conditions included heavy rain and road conditions were wet at the time of the accident.
