Icy Bridge Near Helena Leads to Fatal Wreck

71-year-old Willie M. Pointer (Poplar Grove, AR) was fatally injured in an accident on Monday, December 2, 2024.

At approximately 5:53 a.m. Mr. Willie Pointer was traveling south on Highway 49 across the Mississippi River bridge. A northbound vehicle (2012 Dodge Charger) lost control and crossed into Mr. Pointer’s lane before colliding with Mr. Pointer’s vehicle (2007 Nissan Altima). After the collision, a second northbound vehicle (2014 Dodge Charger) collided with the other Dodge vehicle. Mr. Pointer sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

Additionally, 28-year-old Fernando Acala (Memphis, TN) and 30-year-old Eric Rodriguez (Memphis, TN) sustained injuries in the accident. Those injured were transported to Memphis Regional One Hospital.

Weather conditions were freezing fog and road conditions were icy at the time of the accident.
