Wrong Way Vehicle on I-40 Leads to Fatal Wreck
42-year-old Richard Covert (Benton, AR) was fatally injured in an incident on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. Mr. Covert was “fleeing from the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office” west on Ghering Road. Mr. Covert failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Ghering Road and John Shelton Road. Mr. Covert’s ATV (Honda) collided with a northbound vehicle (2001 Chevrolet Tahoe) in the northbound lane of John Shelton Road.
25-year-old Billy Joe Siegrist (Jacksonville, AR) and 24-year-old Shannon Siegrist (Jacksonville, AR) were traveling in the Chevy vehicle and sustained injuries in the collision. Those injured were transported to UAMS in Little Rock.
Weather conditions were cloudy and road conditions wet at the time of the accident.
