Wrong Way Vehicle on I-40 Leads to Fatal Wreck
63-year-old Michael Owens (Batesville, AR) was fatally injured in an accident on Monday, September 4, 2023.
At approximately 3:55 p.m. Mr. Owens was traveling south on U.S. Highway 167 near Pfeiffer Road north of Batesville when his motorcycle (2000 Yamaha ETC). Mr. Owens made a lefthand turn onto U.S. 167 from Pfeiffer Road and according to the report, “drove into the path of [a southbound vehicle].”
The southbound vehicle was an Arkansas State Police 2020 Dodge Charger driving with its lights on. The state police vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but made contact with Mr. Owens’ motorcycle.
Mr. Owens was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Weather conditions were cloudy and road conditions dry at the time of the accident.
