One Dead Following Three-Car Wreck on MLK Bypass in Hot Springs

74-year-old Jimmie Sargent (Hot Springs, AR) was fatally injured in an accident that occurred on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

At approximately 6:21 a.m. Mr. Sargent was traveling west in the eastbound inside lane of traffic on U.S. 70/270 (MLK Bypass) near Higdon Ferry Road when his vehicle (1987 Ford Ranger) collided head-on with a vehicle (2007 GMC Sierra) traveling east in the eastbound inside lane of traffic.

21-year-old Brenden Rice (Royal, AR) was driving the GMC Sierra vehicle east on US 70/270 and was unable to avoid Mr. Sargent’s vehicle.

Following the initial collision, Mr. Sargent’s vehicle collided with a second vehicle (2016 Chevrolet Suburban) traveling east on US 70/270. 33-year-old Shelby Villegas (Hot Springs, AR) was driving the Chevrolet Suburban at the time of the accident.

Weather conditions were reportedly cloudy and overcast and road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.
