The way you get your car fixed after an accident is, you’ve got to make some phone calls, got to make some decisions about who to call. If you were involved in an accident with another vehicle and that vehicle was at fault, then you’ve got two really two options. You can call your insurance company, get them involved, or you can also call the at-fault driver’s insurance. You really need to call them to open the claim, let them know that you’re making a claim. Usually, at that point, they will send an adjuster out to look at the car. They’ll make a decision about whether the car is totaled or if it can be repaired.
If the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds seventy percent of the value of the vehicle in Arkansas, then they’ll most likely total the vehicle. If its repair costs are less than seventy percent of the value of the car, then your car is gonna get repaired. Your vehicle is most likely gonna be at a tow lot somewhere, drawing storage, thirty to forty dollars a day in storage fees. So you can’t let your car sit there too long, or it’s really gonna cause you some problems down the road.
The insurance company is gonna balk at paying those fees if you allow your car to sit there for an extended period of time. You also have the right to decide which body shop is gonna fix your vehicle. The repair shop is gonna work with the insurance company that is gonna actually end up paying the bills to decide how much they’re gonna get paid and how much they’ll do the job for. Then there’s also the issue of a rental vehicle in the meantime.
So we wanna make sure that you get this process going pretty quickly after the wreck to get into a rental vehicle so you can get back and forth to work, get your kids to school, that type of thing, while your car’s being repaired.
