Highway 18 Head-on Collision in AR Claims 2 Lives

67-year-old Janet Chapman (Blytheville, AR) and 56-year-old Mark Gibson (Paragould, AR) were both fatally injured in an accident on Friday, August 9, 2024.

At approximately 10:26 a.m. Mark Gibson, of Paragould, was a passenger in a vehicle (2018 Ford E-350) traveling west on State Highway 18 in Lake City. Ms. Janet Chapman was traveling east on Highway 18 when her vehicle (2024 Nissan Sentra) crossed the center lane and traveled into westbound traffic. Ms. Chapman’s vehicle collided head-on with Mr. Gibson’s vehicle.

Mr. Mark Gibson and Ms. Janet Chapman both sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

54-year-old Cherie Gibson (Paragould, AR) and 72-year-old Phyllis Moore (Manila, AR) were also traveling in the westbound Ford vehicle and sustained injuries in the accident.

Those injured were transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, TN.
