“JUULing” refers to the use of a particular brand of e-cigarettes known as JUUL. JUUL is a particularly popular brand of e-cigarettes, with an estimated 68% share of the e-cigarette market. A majority of JUUL-related Instagram posts appealed to youth culture, and research indicates that 80% of JUUL’s followers on Twitter were between the ages of 13 and 20. According to www.cancer.org, JUUL is the overwhelming favorite e-cigarette product among teenagers.
Vaping among high school students increased by nearly 80% between 2017 and 2018, marking the highest increase in smoking, drinking, or drug use ever recorded in the United States. Much of the surge has been attributed to JUUL’s marketing efforts amongst youth.
